Trusting God While Waiting: Faith for the In-Between
Few things test our faith like waiting. Yet the in-between is not empty space — it is where trust is quietly formed.
The Ache of the In-Between
Waiting is one of the hardest assignments of faith. The job that has not come, the relationship still unhealed, the prayer that seems to echo back unanswered — these stretch us in ways that crisis sometimes does not, because waiting asks us to keep believing without immediate proof.
If you are in a season of waiting, you may feel like you are standing still while everyone else moves forward. But God measures time differently than we do, and a delay is not the same as a denial.
Strength Is Renewed in the Waiting
Scripture does not treat waiting as passive. It connects waiting to renewed strength, as though something is being rebuilt in us during the very season that feels like nothing is happening.
There is a promise hidden in the delay: the One you are waiting on is also working in you while you wait.
“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
Isaiah 40:31
What to Do with the Silence
When God feels quiet, it helps to keep doing the small, ordinary things of faith: showing up, praying honestly, reading a little Scripture, serving someone nearby. Faithfulness in the waiting is still faithfulness.
You do not have to manufacture excitement you do not feel. You only have to stay near. Trust is not the absence of longing; it is choosing to keep your heart turned toward God in the middle of the longing.
His Timing Is Not Indifference
It is easy to interpret delay as God forgetting you. But Scripture frames waiting as an act of hopeful expectation, like a watchman who knows the morning is certain even before the light appears.
Your waiting is held by a God who keeps His promises, even when the timeline is not yours.
“Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.”
Psalm 27:14
